ERICA McNICOL
WELCOME TO MY WEBSITE
WHAT'S NEW.....WHERE I'VE BEEN & WHAT I'M DOING IN THE FUTURE.
Yay!!!!!! I'm participating in a market.
Lots of baskets, dried flowers, ceramics and more!
In the meantime, here's a little about me and my art practice.
My love of art has been lifelong. I love to seek it out, learn about it, find it in places where it's not expected but most of all I love to make it. It sustains me.
I hope that this website will give you an insight into what I create. If you like something here let me know. Send me a message on the contact page or via Facebook and we will see what we can organise.
BIOGRAPHY
I've always drawn, painted and created , competed in art competitions and contributed in many exhibitions, two of them being solo.
Originally a farm girl from the lower lakes in South Australia I have lived and painted in locations ranging from Coorong to the Adelaide Hills to the Northern Rivers of NSW and I now live in Flagstaff Hill. Among my skills are embroidery, pencil drawing, water colour, oil painting, appliqué, gouache, textiles and of course now creating unique, original enameled jewellery. During my artistic career I have attended many Art courses, taught embroidery at Mt. Barker TAFE and for a couple of years I rented studio space at the Hahndorf Academy where I painted for tourists and sold embroidery and oil paintings in the gallery. Now living at Flagstaff Hill I have a studio to work from and live in an area which provides me with the opportunity to create from home and deliver these to several local galleries, along with participating in exhibitions and markets occasionally.
MY GALLERIES
I am currently a member of The Red House Group at Gallery M, Marion where I exhibit and sell gift items in the gallery shop. I also contribute to Atelier Gallery at Crafers , The Hahndorf Academy at Hahndorf, The Fleurieu Arthouse and Red Poles in Mclaren Vale.
WHAT I CREATE
By far the art I have created and loved the most is Painting, Drawing and enamelled jewellery but along with these I have dabbled with textiles and several different types of embroidery.
Over the years I have been building on my enameling skills and designs and by doing this I have developed my own style. Much of the techniques I employ are vastly different to the technic I was taught and are of my own invention making them completely individual and unique.
I have also make fabric and rope vessels and baskets. I make them from new rope but have sourced many of the fabrics from second hand stores and in remnant bins. Once again I am selling these at all of my galleries where they have been very popular. I love that the process of making them enables me to combine colours in an artistic manner and each one is an individual creation. Best of all they are useful and look spectacular filled with a plant. Check them out in the Gallery!
Buds n' Blooms ceramic garden spikes. I have been delivering them to all of my galleries but you can always contact me if you want a look in person.
My little ceramic creatures! So far it's Snails, blue tonged lizards and turtles but I'm planning to do more creating a selection of creatures that have a meaning for me.
Please continue on to my gallery page in this website and have a look at what I create. As of yet I am not selling from this website but almost all the jewellery and baskets can be reproduced with some variations and commissioned work can be negotiated. Feel free to check out some of my previous commissions in the page titled Commissions for examples.
Have fun!
